What
is a Forum?
Forums can be defined as a public meeting or assembly
for open discussion — Through these forums a projection
will be made about how technologies and industries will
emerge in the coming next 5 to 10 years. It will also
suggest the steps to be taken to reach those goals.
Forums give an opportunity to different people belonging
to various industries to discuss about a specific technology
by providing them a platform. This will enable them
to gather in a place for a week or more days to discuss
about the future development of the technology, barriers
and obstacles, technological potentialities and possible
solutions and remedies. Generating ideas are more important
than arriving at conclusions. the participants can go
back to their companies rejuvenated with full of new
ideas enabling them to face the future challenges and
to move successfully in to the future.
Forums are…
- Limited attendance: only about 75 to 85 people are
allowed to participate in the discussions.
- Participation can happen only upon invitation. To
attend one has to submit an application by providing
complete details about one’s background and
experience.
- The applications sent will be screened by the Forum
Steering Committee and they will decide who will contribute
most to the discussion after a thorough evaluation.
(Service providers, academicians, consultants, representatives
belonging to various technological disciplines).
- Confidentiality is maintained. An elaborate note
taking is not permitted. Their will be no publication
on the events if required a brief summary will be
published with the consent of all the attendees.
- Complete interaction and discussion: formal presentations
are not allowed. Leaders have to start their discussions
by presenting three or four slides and create an atmosphere
for discussion. If required smaller groups are formed
and allowed to discuss. Later they will report back
to the full group.
- Relaxed atmosphere is provided in resort like ambience
where social events will be held. During this free
time informal interaction among participants will
be facilitated.
- A forum does not give opportunity for everyone.
Through forums ideas are generated and solutions are
provided. Eminent technologist and meritorious people
will have the opportunity of participating in forums.
- SPE has created forums in North America, South
America, Europe, the Middle East, and the Asia Pacific.
